| Where to travel in Manitouwadge |
Community Information |
Manitouwadge, in Ojibway, translates to “Cave of the Great Spirit”. The town was founded to support the copper mines in the area, plus the gold mine in Hemlo. Although mining development has closed down, forestry still plays a significant part in the town’s economy. It is also known to have the lowest housing prices in the country and is turning into a retirement community. Hunting and fishing are main attractions, as are the many trails for hiking in the summer and wilderness trails for snowmobilers in the winter. From the top of the ski hill you can enjoy a fantastic view of the whole town.
